ALUMNI INTERACTION DAY ‘2019’

The Dinthill Technical High School Alumni Day a major success! “Alumni Day, April 12th, 2019 will forever be etched in my mind…” exclaimed an enthusiastic proud Alumni member and serving representative of the Alumni Association of Jamaica.

The anticipation was looping and a day never to be forgotten as the Alumni Association of Jamaica took charge in partnering with the school to stage this ‘Alumni Day’ event. With a newfound presence and pride Alumnus near and far flocked the grounds of the Dinthill Technical High School in celebration with the students and staff.

The school’s administration was elated to see members of this noble institution returned to portray its mantra of “Deeds not Words”. According to Mrs. Monica White, the Acting Principal “During my tenure serving this institution we’ve never seen such a coordinated grouping of past students sharing and delivering in this manner”. It was dubbed ‘Alumni Day’ because the school had just recently celebrated Eighty-One (81) years of existence having been founded on April 1st, 1938 and so the two were merged this year following months of planning and preparations.

Lead by Mr. Donovan Betancourt (Chairman for School Affairs – DTHS Alumni Association Jamaica) and his team of directors commenced the day with a general devotion conducted by Mrs. White. At the end of devotion the teaching and administrative staff, students along with members of alumni present participated in a flag-raising ceremony where the Jamaican flag was hoisted by the school’s cadet corps.

Approximately 35 alumni representatives then met to follow through on the activities planned.  During that period, Mrs. White shared with the group on some of the needs existed within the school. They were then dispatched into groups with the goal of interacting with the students from the different classes of grades 7 to 11. The goal was to connect, sensitize and to motivate them accordingly.

The proud Alumni cohort shared motivational speeches, experiences and conducted various presentations including scholarships and training needs. Finally, the mass headed to the Enos Barrett multipurpose auditorium for the Alumni Awards Ceremony. The program was chaired by Mr. Donovan Betancourt and Keynote Speaker Mrs. Mildred Wright-Crawford (Global Chair Farmers’ Constituency General Assembly of Partners).  Other key participants were Mr. Fredrick Sutherland; President of the Dinthill Alumni Association Jamaica, Mrs. Monica White, Acting Principal; Mrs. Novelette Malcolm and Mr. Christopher Pitterson both Vice Principals of the institution.

Academic awards were presented to students who attained the requisite criteria within the categories of Bronze and Silver League, Gold – Honor Roll, and Extra Codal & Sports.  Other awards were presented to the members of staff for outstanding contributions to their craft.  All the Alumni members participated in the presentation of awards to the students.

In conclusion, the support received was tremendous and a job well done to all stakeholders who made themselves available to serve in such a dynamic manner, #One Maroon! ‘Facta Non Verba !’ – looking forward to more participation next year…
