Now a staple calendar event, the Dinthill Alumni Association’s Medical Mission is led under the auspices of the Florida Chapter. It is in partnership with the County Line Chiropractic Medical and Rehab Center. This medical group practice is located in Miami, Florida. They provided medical, dental, and optical examinations for the students in this year’s staging.
This year’s mission took place from August 18th to 19th, 2022. The two-day event was well attended and supported by parents and students from neighboring schools. The program welcomed students from Enid Bennett High School. This school was formerly known as Bog Walk High School. Students also came from Guy’s Hill High School, according to Margarett Watt Walker, the mission coordinator.
Mission purpose
With an increased need to satisfy medical examinations for back-to-school endeavors. The mission seeks to focus on providing essential health care in medical, dental, and optical examinations where necessary. Additionally, students with further prognosis are referred to their general practitioners with immediate attention and urgency.
With the two-year hiatus due to the novel coronavirus, the mission returns with increased challenges. Despite the hiccups, the mission is committed to offering its services to the community.
Mission Challenge
According to Miss Walker “There are about 70 of us from overseas of different professions. We have some challenges with things that were shipped. We need to use them, but the shipper has not delivered after five weeks. Still, we are here to serve”. She further lamented that if this continues it will jeopardize the longevity of the program for future missions.
The government needs to support more NGOs
She further appealed to the government to offer a more hassle-free environment for NGOs. These organizations are seeking to give help to their Alma Mater. Additionally, this will also encourage professionals in the diaspora to give back to nation-building with their services. Every year Medical doctors, Ophthalmologists, Dentists, and other volunteers partner with us to make our mission a success.
