The Dinthill Alumni Association prides itself as a resilient organization that is transforming the education landscape through service and good governance. Founded in 1938, our beloved Alma Mater survived a year that saw labour unrest in Jamaica. Today as an Alumni Association we are thankful that we have, weathered the challenges of the pandemic and achieved major accomplishments during a period of an uncertain economic climate.
Hence, the association retooled, redefined and re-position itself and has assisted our school which now holds the position of the #1 Non-Traditional School and the #1 Technical School in Jamaica based on the latest ranking by Jamaica Education Transformation Commission.
Dinthill Alumni Association structure reform
The Dinthill Alumni Association revised the constitution for the future. During the period of the Covid19 pandemic, the organization has emerged in a very strong financial position that has audited financial reports. Through successful and innovative fundraising concepts the Dinthill Past Students Association has raised more revenues than it has ever done in the past. The Association has also invested in the long term, to advance the lives of the future generation of students by creating wealth. We aim to make the Dinthill Technical High School, an institution of choice in Jamaica and the region.
Hence, the Association seeks private and public partnerships as we intend to ensure that Dinthill generates income that will sustain and grow the school, provide for the welfare of the students, and reduce the dependence on governments for sustenance.
Projects and Fundraising
In addition, the major projects undertaken over the past 3 years included the Linval Freeman Gymnasium, the installation of the Fibre Network backbone, which provides connectivity for the entire campus and the Dairy Redevelopment Project.
The pride and joy of all past students is our farm and as such, we can relate to the slogan “eat what you grow”. We are on a mission to re-develop our farm and in 2021, twenty (20) calves were purchased. This was facilitated by the successful “Social Mediathon” fundraiser.
Our mediathon fundraiser has become the flagship event since the pandemic, as we were unable to host our signature gala banquet. The mediathon is on the 2022 calendar of events, which will be held in July. We kicked off 2021 with a successful Valentine’s Day Fundraiser. Other events proposed for this year include our Founders’ Week celebration, a Drive-in Movie and online Bingo and Virtual birthday parties.
Dinthill is unique because of the many disciplines offered to students and the institution has produced many rounded individuals who have excelled in various industries. Our students continue to excel. The CXC Merit list for 2020 showed the school holding the #1 position in Agricultural Science in CSEC and CAPE and placed first in CAPE for Food and Nutrition regionally.
Achievements
Our footballers won second place in the finals of the 2020 Champions Cup. Dinthill has been dominant in football and won the Dacosta Cup twice, in 1979 and 1981. The footballers received awards for the most defensive team in the 2020 Dacosta Cup. Over the years the school had noted performances at Boys and Girls Champs and the Penn Relays and made commendable contributions in netball, music and cricket.
Notwithstanding, the other co-curricular activities and extra-coda involvements where students serve local community organizations and service clubs.
The Dinthill Alumni Association Jamaica has created the “One Maroon” brand, which defines who we are as a body. TWith our school colour being maroon and gold, we dare to represent a brand that exemplifies our school motto: “FACTA NON VERBA – DEEDS NOT WORDS” #ONEMAROON! #FACTANONVERBA!
