Dinthill Past Students rolls out $5 Million Digitisation Project at the School.

The Dinthill Technical High School Alumni Association Jamaica in partnership with the Digicel Foundation will be embarking on a massive full-scale digitization fibre backbone network infrastructure servicing the entire campus.

The contract valued at just under $5 million JMD was signed on Monday, February 1st, 2021 with network provider, Nextech Network Solutions Limited. It will see the provision of a fibre backbone network to provide internet connectivity across the entire campus.

President of the Past students Association Jamaica Mr. Donovan Betancourt, hailed this partnership as pivotal in the development of the institution and expressed his gratitude to the Digicel Foundation for their continued support in the development of educational institutions locally and in the diaspora.

With the growing need for online learning, this new infrastructure will facilitate for the expansion of the institution to become fully polytechnic within the next 5-10 years. According to Mr. Anthony Garwood, Principal, the full digitisation framework will further upscale the school’s goal in reaching more students, both online and in the classroom.

At present, Mr. Garwood lamented that the school has seen up to 80 per cent engagement with students online, with the grades 11 to 13 cohorts who are now preparing to sit their exams coming in for face-to-face classes. The ICT upgrade will allow the school to facilitate the Caribbean Council of Examinations (CXC) online assessments that are now a requirement for some subjects.

The Dinthill Technical High School is located in Linstead, St. Catherine and was established in 1938 and has approximately 1500 students and 75 faculties. The school operates on approximately 137 acres of arable land suitable for commercial agriculture and has strong technical, vocational and agricultural base.
